Labor & Employment

Our labor and employment department has represented both public and private employers of all sizes, from small family-owned businesses to large multi-state corporations, in employment litigation, including class and collective actions. Our employment attorneys have handled cases in multiple state and federal jurisdictions outside of Florida including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. We also have successfully represented clients before local, state and federal administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, the Wage and Hour Division of the U.S. Department of Labor, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration , the Florida Commission on Human Relations and the Florida Public Employee Relations Commission.

The Firm has provided representation to several employers in Florida and other states in efforts to defeat union organizing campaigns and maintains a unique competence in traditional labor law matters. Our attorneys also are able to guide public and private employers in collective bargaining and the overall labor-management relationship.

Our Firm’s lawyers also have expertise in ERISA matters, having extensive experience litigating a variety of ERISA claims including denial of benefits claims and COBRA matters.

Despite this extensive experience, our employment law attorneys pride themselves on the avoidance of litigation through real time counseling, preparation and review of employment policies and handbooks and training of both management and rank and file employees. The Firm also specializes in workplace investigations – either as an adjunct to the employer’s own investigation or as an independent reviewer. Communication is the cornerstone of this practice group – involving clients early in the settlement process so they have the benefit of the full picture when making resolution decisions. We strive to provide the client with an array of options early in litigation to assist the client in making a sound business decision about how to proceed.

Respected in the legal and human resources communities, our attorneys are regularly called upon for article publication and speaking engagements and are active in the Labor and Employment Law Sections of The Florida Bar and the Hillsborough County Bar Association. In this regard, one of our employment law attorneys recently served as Chair of the Certification Committee of The Florida Bar for Labor and Employment Law.
