Magidson Announces Initiative for Veterans and Military Personnel

Stetson University College of Law dedicated its new Veterans Law Institute with a ceremony on May 31 in Gulfport, Fla.

More than 100 people gathered for the dedication, which included remarks by the Honorable Bruce E. Kasold, chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, Stetson Law faculty, students and veterans, a flag presentation by Congressman Bill Young’s office, and a color guard presentation by Boca Ciega High School’s Army JROTC.

The Institute will serve as a center for veteran and military scholarship, the site of Stetson’s Veterans Advocacy Clinic, and provide continuing legal education for attorneys representing veterans as well as a focal point for student veterans and their pro bono related activities.

The facility that houses the Institute was named the Judge Raphael Steinhardt Building in honor of the contributions of the judge who also endowed a scholarship for student veterans.

Stainton Appointed to Florida Bar Standing Committee on Judicial Administration and Evaluation

William Stainton has been appointed to the Florida Bar’s standing committee on Judicial Administration and Evaluation.
The Judicial Administration and Evaluation Committee has the responsibility of accepting specific assignments from the Board of Governors in areas regarding the judiciary. The committee prior to each legislative session reviews all legislation prefiled pertinent to the judiciary and makes recommendations either to the Board of Governors or the Legislation Committee.


Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen Announces New Shareholder

Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that William M. Stainton has been named shareholder of the firm. Mr. Stainton focuses his practice in the areas of Business & Corporate Law and Commercial Litigation.

Mr. Stainton received his J.D., cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law, and his B.A. in political science from the University of Florida. He presently serves as a commissioner on Florida’s Federal Judicial Nominating Commission, which is responsible for recommending candidates for District Judge and U.S. Attorney to the President of the United States. Mr. Stainton is a life long resident of Tampa and is married to Joanne B. Stainton.

Mr. Stainton will be working out of the Tampa office.

Jeffrey W. Gibson earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Tampa in 1998, and was awarded his law degree, with honors, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 2001. Mr. Gibson’s practice focuses on Business Litigation, Labor & Employment Law and Medical Malpractice.


Magidson Receives Richard T. Earle, Jr. Professionalism Award

Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce the selection of Joshua Magidson as the 2007 recipient of the prestigious Richard T. Earle, Jr. Professionalism Award. The award is presented by the Barney Masterson Inns of Court to the lawyer who demonstrates the highest degree of professionalism in the practice of law in the county and circuit courts.Pinellas County Circuit and County judges determine the recipient.

Mr. Magidson is a shareholder in the firm’s Clearwater office and is a 1980 graduate of Stetson University College of Law. Mr. Magidson practices law in the area of business litigation, with an emphasis in real property litigation, probate litigation, auto dealership and bankruptcy issues involving creditors’ rights.
