On Saturday, January 29, 2011, the All Children's Hospital Guild Evening Branch hosted the 80th Annual Charity Ball for All Children's Hospital. Macfarlane Ferguson and McMullen was a sponsor of the event, which was held at the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort and Golf Club. NEW ASSOCIATES JOIN THE FIRM

Ashley R. Kellgren has joined the Firm as an Associate in the Tampa office’s Medical and Legal Malpractice practice area. Ms. Kellgren graduated magna cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law where she earned an impressive five book awards in her law studies. She obtained both a B.A. in Criminology and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Florida while a 4-year varsity scholarship athlete with the University of Florida Women’s Soccer team.

George E. Eppsteiner has joined the Firm’s Tampa office as an Associate in the Litigation and Labor and Employment areas. Mr. Eppsteiner graduated cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law where he was the Executive Articles Editor for the Journal of Law and Public Policy and earned two book awards. He was also the recipient of the James W. Locke Scholarship and Second Best Oralist on the Florida Moot Court Team at the Chicago Bar Association Moot Court Competition. He earned both a B.S. in Sport Management and B.A. in Spanish, summa cum laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

May 2010 - William Stainton has been appointed to the Florida Bar's standing committee on Judicial Administration and Evaluation.

The Judicial Administration and Evaluation Committee has the responsibility of accepting specific assignments from the Board of Governors in areas regarding the judiciary. The committee prior to each legislative session reviews all legislation prefiled pertinent to the judiciary and makes recommendations either to the Board of Governors or the Legislation Committee.

ATTORNEYS BOLIN AND BROWN SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND CLIENT IN WRONGFUL DEATH CASE TAMPA, FL - March, 2008 - Andrew M. Brown obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of his client after a one week wrongful death medical malpractice trial in Citrus County, Florida. The Plaintiffs alleged that an emergency room physician was negligent in his decision to discharge a patient who presented complaining of chest pain radiating into the left arm and neck. Mr. Brown argued that the physician's examination met the standard of care and that the physician could rely on the multiple cardiac test results, which were normal, to make his decision to discharge the patient for follow up care on an outpatient basis. The Plaintiff's demand in the case was $2.5 million dollars.

MARTIN ELECTED PRESIDENT OF FLORIDA ACADEMY OF HEALTH CARE LAWYERS Nov. 7, 2006 - CLEARWATER, FL. Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that James A. Martin, Jr., became President of the Florida Academy of Health Care Lawyers at the annual meeting of the Florida Hospital Association in Orlando. Mr. Martin is a shareholder in the firm's Clearwater office. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1973 and has over 30 years of trial experience in the areas of medical malpractice, labor & employment and business litigation. TAMPA, FL. -- Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that Carolyn House Stewart has been honored with the Florida Commission on Status of Women (FCSW) Achievement Award for her outstanding contributions and service. She is a shareholder of the firm and practices law in the Tampa office in the areas of labor & employment law, personal injury, eminent domain, insurance defense, commercial litigation and products liability. Ms. Stewart, who is one of the few African-American women partners in a majority law firm in the United States, has made countless contributions to the community. She was recently elected International First Vice President (President-Elect) of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an international service organization of 170,000 college trained women founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University. Under her guidance as program chair, the Sorority completed many diverse service projects, including raising funds for Sickle Cell research, awarding scholarships, mentoring over 15,000 at-risk children and funding and building 10 schools in South Africa. Ms. Stewart also worked diligently to obtain a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to promote vehicle occupant safety in the African American Community and has participated in SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Awareness initiatives. Macfarlane Ferguson and McMullen has supported her efforts in her community service endeavors, including donations to the local chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha's Senior Citizens Holiday Dinner, George Edgecomb Bar Association Annual Law Day Scholarship Banquet as a heritage sponsor, and supported the National Bar Association (NBA) Annual Meeting in 2005 where Ms. Stewart served as Convention Co-Chair.

Prior to her election as International First Vice President, Ms. Stewart served for two terms as National Secretary and previously served as president of the local Gamma Theta Omega Chapter and Chairman of the International Program Committee. MAGIDSON AWARDED SERVICE AWARD BY STETSON COLLEGE OF LAW05/11/06 - CLEARWATER. Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen is pleased to announce that Joshua Magidson has been awarded the 2006 Paul M. May Meritorious Service Award from Stetson University College of Law for his continued support of the Stetson Alumni Association.

Mr. Magidson is a shareholder in the firm's Clearwater office. He is a 1980 graduate of Stetson University College of Law. He has been an active member of the Stetson Lawyers Association and Stetson Lawyer Advisory Council and served as the Association President for the 1997-1998 term. Mr. Magidson currently serves on the Stetson University College of Law's Board of Overseers. He practices law in the area of business litigation, with an emphasis in real property litigation, probate litigation, auto dealership and bankruptcy issues involving creditors' rights.
